Thanks for everything on Good News Friday

Sheffield researchers claim expressing gratitude can bring benefits for health, empathy, self-esteem, reduced aggression and better sleep.  Dr Chris Blackmore and Dr Fusida Siros from the University of Sheffield are behind the idea of Good News Friday, encouraging the public to declare their thanks for something, whether big, small, personal or universal. A Wall of Gratitude has been set up in the Moor to collect declarations from the public. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

New cinema, The Light, opens on The Moor

The Light, Sheffield’s newest multi-screen cinema opens on The Moor this weekend with an opening bill including the highly anticipated Fast and Furious 8. The Light plans to show the latest blockbusters plus independent and international films. The venue also includes a spacious café-bar, The Green Room. Azz Mohammed reports for Sheffield Live!

Moor Sheffield and Off the Shelf celebrate 100 years of Roald Dahl

Moor Sheffield and Off the Shelf collaborated in an outdoor event to celebrate 100 years of the popular children’s author Roald Dahl. A fizz-whizzing afternoon was had by human beans of all ages and visitors were encourage to make dirty beast masks, BFG ears or Cinderella crowns. There was even a robot poem generator. Sheffield Live! report Simon Thake was lucky enough to catch up with one of Dahl’s favourite characters.

Pop-up antique shopping to boost Moor Market

Sheffield’s Moor Market played host to all things classic and quirky with a new vintage pop-up market. The monthly event, a collaboration between the Moor Market and Sheffield Antiques Quarter, featured around 40 stalls of retro, vintage, arts, crafts, and antiques.The idea is part of a Moor Market plan for a year round events calendar to complement the regular shopping offer. Sheffield Live! reporter Simon Thake spoke to stall owners and marketeers.
