Lottery grant to restore Broomhill heritage garden

Broomhill Library have received a grant from the Big Lottery for improvements to the Victorian building and to restore its long-abandoned Percy Cain Heritage Garden. The building on Taptonville Road was privately owned before being converted to a library in 1957. Since 2014 it has been run by volunteers who are hoping it can be developed as a community hub. Sheffield Live reporter Azz Mohammed spoke to the David Chenchen, chair of the trustees of Broomhill Library.

Bath, Book, Bed campaign promotes reading to children

Sheffield Libraries have launched their Bath, Book, Bed campaign to promote reading to children as part of the bedtime routine. Parents and young children were invited to join the launch event at The Moor Market featuring a special appearance by Pepper Pig, children’s stories from the Little Library and advice on safe sleeping from the Lullaby Trust. Sheffield Central Library could become five star hotel

Sheffield City Council confirmed this week that the Central Library could be replaced with a five-star hotel as part of a Chinese investment deal. The Council signed the deal with Chinese construction firm Guodong UK Ltd in July, with £220m pledged over the next three years. If plans go ahead, it would be the city’s first five-star hotel and the library would move elsewhere in the city centre while Graves A about the proposals.

Walkley Library celebrates two years as a community-run library

Walkley Library, which was saved from closure in 2014 after a community campaign, is celebrating two years of running independently as a community library with the support of local volunteers. At an open event to celebrate the achievement members of the public were invited to take part in activities aimed at showing the range of services on offer and to contribute to a survey on further improvements.
