Second FA football hub opens at Thorncliffe Park

A new football hub has been opened at Thorncliffe Park following the launch last month at Graves Park of the first of a network of grassroots football hubs. The Parklife programme is a new initiative to develop sustainable community football hubs across the country, raising playing standards and opportunities for all. It is funded by The Football Association, the Premier League and Department of Culture Media and Sport through Sport England and works in partnerships with local authorities and the Football Foundation. Sheffield Live! reporter Bailor Jalloh spoke to Councillor Mary Lea, cabinet response for culture, sport and leisure at Sheffield City Council.

Sheffield United: Wilder plays down injury concerns ahead of Bury game

Blades manager Chris Wilder expects Paul Coutts, Kieron Freeman and Mark Duffy to be available for Tuesday’s game against Bury despite weekend injuries. Goals from Billy Sharp and Stefan Scougall gave Sheffield United a 2-1 victory over nine-man Shrewsbury that lifted them into the automatic promotion places this weekend. However the game was marred for United with injuries to three key players. Paul Coutts, Kieron Freeman and Mark Duffy all had to leave the field with injuries. Paul Coutts was on the receiving end of a studs up high challenge by Shrewsbury’s Abu Ogogo. Simon Thake reports for Sheffield Live!

Sheffield launch for first Parklife centre to support grassroots football.

The first of the new Parklife grassroots football hubs in England has been unveiled at Graves Park in Sheffield. The Parklife program is a new initiative to develop sustainable community football hubs across the country, raising playing standards and opportunities for all. The hubs are funded by a partnership between the Football Association, the Premier League and Department of Culture, Media and Sport through Sport England together with local authorities and other local partners. Sheffield Wednesday: Pudil welcomes increased expectations from Owls fans

Sheffield Wednesday’s Czech international Daniel Pudil has said that the Owls will be looking to continue their recent good form as they take on QPR at Hillsborough. Pudil was the Owl’s midweek goalscorer as they came from behind to share the points with Cardiff. Defender Pudil said he understands the increased expectation from Wednesday fans after their recent wins and success of last season.

Caborn calls for independent inquiry into football corruption

Former sport Minister Richard Caborn has called on the Football Association to commission an independent inquiry into football corruption. The call comes after former England boss, Sam Allardyce stepped down as manager of the national side, following allegations in the Daily Telegraph newspaper. Allardyce was reported to have offered advice to undercover reporters posing as businessmen from the far east on how to “get around” player transfer rules.  Allardyce left his position in disgrace after just 67 days, making him the shortest reigning England manager in history.
