Sheffield Wednesday: Owls boss under pressure

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal has said he’s not afraid of being sacked despite recent losses. The Owls boss is under pressure after loosing against city rivals Sheffield United at Hillsborough followed by a 0-1 defeat against Birmingham city on Tuesday night. Wednesday are currently fourteenth in the Championship and face another difficult task at the weekend against regional rivals Leeds United.

Football referees need video technology – Clattenburg

Former premiership referee Mark Clattenburg has called for video technology to be introduced in football. Clattenburg spoke to Sheffield Live! after the under-14s final of the Youdan Trophy in which Sunderland beat Sheffield United 2-1. Keith Hackett applauds Youdan Trophy success

Former top english referee Keith Hackett has called on businesses to take more notice of the Youdan Trophy football competition. The event, now into its third year, attracted 40 top flight academy teams with Seattle winning the under 16s title while Sunderland won the under 14s with a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United. Hackett told Sheffield Live! the competition is gaining exposure at a fast rate and teams may have to be turned down in future years. Azz Mohammed reports.

Youdan Trophy showcases young football talent

The Youdan Trophy finals have taken place at Hallam Sports Park with Seattle winning the under-16s final and Sunderland the under-14s champions. Around nine hundred players from across the world came to Sheffield for the third year of the academy football tournament. Sunderland beat Sheffield United 2-1 in the under 14s final whilst reigning champions Seattle Sounders retained their title with a 4-2 victory over Everton in the under-16s. Top academy footballers in Sheffield for world tournament

Nearly 900 academy football players, including from some of the world’s top clubs, are competing for the Youdan Trophy in Sheffield. The competition for young footballers was started three years ago as a way of providing up-and-coming referees with top level match experience. From just eight teams in the inaugural event it is now attracting top-flight clubs from as far as Japan and South Africa. The 40 teams taking part this year include under-14 and under-16 academy teams from Manchester United and Seattle Sounders as well as Sheffield’s two main clubs. Kyle Walker – from young talent to £50m transfer deal

Kyle Walker’s journey from Sheffield council estate to top flight football is recalled by Simon Hyacinth, Football Unites Racism Divides (FURD) community football coach. Hyacinth runs FURD community football coaching at the U Mix centre where a young Kyle Walker first showed the glimpses of his incredible football talent. Walker, a former Sheffield United academy star, has just become the most expensive defender in the world with his move to Manchester City for over £50 million. Blades clinch League One title

Sheffield United have been crowned League One champions after Bolton fell out of the running with a loss at Oldham. Six years since the Blades last tasted success and following a series of below par performances and managerial changes, former Blades player Chris Wilder has changed the team philosophy and clinched the title with his first year in charge. Sharp named League One Player of the Year

Sheffield United captain and top goal scorer Billy Sharp has been named English Football League One Player of the Year. Thirty-one year old Sharp was given the award ahead of team mate John Fleck and Scunthorpe’s Josh Morris. The Blades skipper was appointed captain when Chris Wilder took over in the summer and has bagged 23 league goals and led his side to automatic promotion. Simon Thake reports for Sheffield Live!

Sheffield United on the way up

Sheffield United are to return to the Championship after a six year absence following their 1-2 away victory at Northampton Town. The Blades needed a win to secure automatic promotion. Marc Richards put Northampton ahead, but Leon Clarke and John Fleck both scored to secure a win for the visitors.
