Marathon man opens Newman School adventure path

Ray Matthews, the pensioner who ran 75 fundraising marathons in 75 days, was joined by Rotherham Mayor Eve Rose Keenan to dig the first turf for a new woodland adventure path at Newman School. The school supports young people with physical disabilities, medical needs and complex learning needs. Matthews raised £75,000 for the adventure path and for new playground equipment to provide a safe and stimulating environment to play, grow and learn. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Marathon man raises £30k for Rotherham school

Marathon runner Ray Matthews has presented a cheque to Newman School, Rotherham, for just under thirty thousand pounds, raised through his 75 marathons campaign. When Matthews turned 75 he decided to embark on a challenge, to run 75 marathons in 75 days. His motivation was to raise money for a Rotherham special school whose pupils and staff had hugely impressed him. Newman School offers a specialist range of provision to support children and young people with physical disabilities, medical needs and complex learning needs. Lord Mayor turns out for Man with the Pram book signing

Cancer fundraising hero, John Burkhill, known as the Man with the Pram, was at a book signing event at the Moor Market today. John who is 77 years old, has raised £350,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and has completed at least 965 races including running the London Marathon 16 times. Sheffield Live! reporter Shamaan Freeman-Powell spoke to one of his biggest fans, Lord Mayor Denise Fox.

The South Yorkshire special school provides a learning community for children, young people, families, carers and staff of many different backgrounds.
