Dan Walker hosts celebrity golf fundraiser

TV presenter and patron of the Children’s Hospital Charity, Dan Walker, held his fourth annual sporting celebrity golf tournament to raise funds for Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Last year’s event brought in over £60,000 towards a multipurpose flouroscopy system which enables rapid diagnosis and surgical intervention without a child needing to go into the operating theatre. Sheffield Live! reporter Azz Mohammed spoke to Dan Walker and Jermaine Jenas.

Hallamshire Golf Club cheer on Fitzpatrick at Ryder Cup

As Europe set about defending their Ryder Cup, Hallamshire Golf Club is cheering on local lad Matt Fitzpatrick. The rookie from Sheffield is playing in his first Ryder Cup after excelling on the amateur circuit. He has been fine tuning his golf skills at Hallamshire Golf Club since he was a school boy. Fitzpatrick joins fellow Sheffielder and Masters Champion Danny Willett on the European Ryder Cup team. The Europeans have won the last three tournaments. Simon Thake reports for Sheffied Live!

Dan Walker charity fundraiser returns to Hallamshire Golf Club

Sports reporter Dan Walker’s star studded Walker Cup celebrity golf match is returning to Sheffield for another year, helping to raise money for The Children’s Hospital Charity. The event raised around £30,000 last year, bringing the UK’s first fully digital 3T MRI scanner. This year Walker plans to raise at least £50,000 for the charity. Sheffield golf fans cheer on Danny for Rio glory

Masters Champion Danny Willett will be aiming for gold this Summer as he makes the long trip to Rio. Whilst the Top 4 golfers in the World have all pulled out of the Olympics including Rory Mcllroy, Sheffield born Danny is now in prime position to capitalise. Andy Carnall the Golf General Manager from Sheffield International Venues certainly fancies his chances.

108 holes of golf – all in aid of Support Dogs

Support_dogsThree clubs, six courses, 108 holes of golf… this Friday (20 June) Mercury Taxis’ Dermot Griffiths and Peter Holmes will attempt a “Golfathon” – aiming to play 18 holes of golf at six different golf courses in and around the Sheffield area.

And it’s not just for fun – they’re raising money for Support Dogs, a national charity dedicated to increasing independence and improving the quality of life for children and adults affected by autism, epilepsy and physical disability.

Starting out at 4.45am in the morning at Abbeydale Golf Club and finishing (hopefully) at around 10pm in the evening up at Tankersley Park Golf Club, Dermotand Peter will be undertaking their ‘Golfathon’ with the aid of just three golf clubs each.

During the day Dermot and Peter will also be playing at Dore and Totley Golf Club, Beauchief Golf Club, Tinsley Park and Hillsborough Golf Clubs as part of the challenge.

Peter told Sheffield Live:
