PACA wins £130,000 funding award for Page Hall youth project

The Pakistan Advice and Community Association (PACA), based in Page Hall has been awarded £130,000 from the BBC Children in Need fund. The three year funding award will be used to organise activities for communities in the area, engage local youth and to promote integration through English language improvement. PACA provides advice and information services on welfare rights, immigration, debt, employment, consumer rights and housing. The group also offer translation and interpretation services. Greystones residents seek Bingham Park improvements

Residents in Greystones have set up the Bingham Park Community Group to restore the community park’s sports facilities. The group are expecting the council to spend around £70,000 on rejuvenating two of the nine tennis courts but they believe more investment is needed to restore all of the sports facilities. Community sports opportunities “reduce anti-social behaviour”

Community sports activities in Sharrow have led to reduced anti-social behaviour according to Wajid Nazir of Sharrow’s One Nation Community Centre. A year ago bonfire night in the Sharrow neighbourhood was marred by violence as local youth hurled fireworks and stones at cars and police but this year’s events went off without incident. Darnall post office threatened with closure

A post office in Darnall run by Darnall Forum could close after the charity’s budget was cut by Sheffield City Council. Six years ago Darnall Forum took the lead in re-opening Darnall’s only post office after it had been closed for eight months. Now, faced with budget cuts, the community forum can no longer afford to run the business and is calling for local and community investors to help save the post office and take it into community ownership. Social enterprise set to benefit from EU regional investment

Social Enterprise Exchange is a new initiative to support social enterprise in Sheffield City Region and backed by European Union funding. The project aims to promote social entrepreneurship and contribute toward jobs, growth and social inclusion. At a launch event in Sheffield participants heard from local social enterprise success stories. Sheffield Live! is a partner in the community-based delivery consortium together with CM Solutions, Groundwork South Yorkshire, Cultural Industries Quarter Agency, South Yorkshire Community Foundation, Voluntary Action Barnsley, and CVP Bolsover. Sheffield Live! TV celebrates two years on air

The local TV channel for Sheffield marked its second anniversary with an invitation to get involved. Sheffield Live! TV launched in September 2014, providing a diverse programme schedule, from politics to poetry, and working alongside Sheffield Live! community radio and the SheffieldLive.org website. The channel operates on a not-for-profit basis and is open to volunteers, community reporters, and independent producers.
