Endcliffe church launches life skills training project

Christ Church Endcliffe is pioneering a new eight week life skills training course to support people to live better on a low income including help with budgeting and decision making. The initiative is backed by the charity Christians Against Poverty which offers support to people regardless of age, gender, faith or background and provides services such as debt counselling and money management as well as life skills training. Eccleshall Road church gains new lease of life

Members of The Well, one of Sheffield’s newest church groups, have contributed £350,000 to buy the former methodist church on Ecclesall Road. The 112 year old church was at risk of being transformed into flats by developers after its former owners struggled to pay for its upkeep. The Well Sheffield Baptist Church, led by the Revd. Nick and Marjorie Allan, has been renting the building since 2015 and has now completed a £785,000 purchase. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Church leaders defend Bishop of Sheffield nomination

The Revd Canon Ian Smith has defended the nomination by church leaders of Bishop Philip North to the position of Bishop of Sheffield. The Rt Revd Philip North, current Bishop of Burnley, turned down the offer of the new role as the diocesan bishop after public criticism of his view that women should not become ordained priests. The campaign group Sheffield Action on Ministry Equality have been vocal in their criticism and staged a demonstration outside the Women of Steel statue in Barker’s Pool on International Women’s Day.
