Premier league boost for Sheffield economy

Sheffield Council chief executive Kate Joseph told Sheffield Live! the Blades promotion to the Premier League will boost the city’s economy. Speaking to Sheffield Live! reporter Baillor Jalloh she said: “The Premier League nationally brings more than £7 billion in growth into the country and Sheffield is going to get a slice of that”. Her comments came after Sheffield United sealed automatic promotion to the Premier League after two years in the Championship.

Free health checks offered at football clubs

Free health checks are to be offered to fans at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane stadium in an initiative in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University & Weston Park Hospital. The third session took place prior to the Blades home game against Middlesborough with the club hoping it can encourage fans to adopt a healthier life. Steel City derby ends in goalless draw

Jos Luhukay’s first match in charge of the Owls ended on a positive start with a goalless draw at Bramall Lane on Friday night. Sheffield Wednesday took a point from the match despite going down to ten men in the second half. Owls captain Glenn Loovens was sent off for a second bookable offence but the Blades, who won 4-2 at Hillsborough in September, could not make the breakthrough. After the game, both managers spoke to Sheffield Live! reporter Baillor Jalloh.

Sheffield United: Brook selected for Wales squad

Sheffield United youngster, David Brook has been selected to join the Wales national team for the forthcoming World Cup qualifying matches in October against Georgia and the Republic of Ireland. It’s the twenty year old’s first international call up. Blades manager Chris Wilder has been full of praise for Brook and said the youngster is very much his plan for the future.

Brooks ready for first team play, says Blades skipper

David Brooks is ready to play a big part for Sheffield United in the coming football season according to Blades skipper Billy Sharp. Wilder reflects on United title win

Blades boss Chris Wilder was appointed last summer to spearhead United’s promotion campaign after the team’s six years in League One. Blades fans celebrate team success

Thousands of people lined the streets to watch Sheffield United’s open-top bus parade in celebration of their League One title win. The victory parade began at Bramall Lane before the players boarded the bus and made their way through the city centre with the team later taking to the balcony of the town hall. The team gained 100 points en route to clinching the title, bringing to an end a six-year stint in the third tier of English football much to the relief of Co-owner Kevin McCabe. Blades clinch League One title

Sheffield United have been crowned League One champions after Bolton fell out of the running with a loss at Oldham. Six years since the Blades last tasted success and following a series of below par performances and managerial changes, former Blades player Chris Wilder has changed the team philosophy and clinched the title with his first year in charge.
