Sheffield campaigners joined hundreds in a protest outside the Libyan embassy in London at the weekend to condemn torture and enslavement of African migrants attempting to transit through the country to enter Europe. Tree campaigner, Martin Young, involved in a stand-off with Council contractors, said he was given no notice of removal of the vehicle from Lismore Road. A new multi-agency campaign has been launched to tackle sexual harassment of women and girls in South Yorkshire supported by Sheffield Council, South Yorkshire Police and community partners. The Know the Line campaign seeks to challenge the attitudes of perpetrators of sexual harassment and to encourage members of the public to look out for the safety of women and girls. Refugee support group the DEWA Project are partnering with mental health practitioners and solicitors to assist women asylum seekers who have suffered sexual or domestic violence. The Home Office Gender Asylum Plan has recognised that woman asylum seekers should be provided with access to trauma counselling and asylum rights information and should not have to relate their story in front of their children or to a male interviewers or interpreter.
