In one of the most highly anticipated boxing matches of the year Floyd Mayweather and Conor Mcgregor will be stepping into the ring in the early hours of Sunday morning. Mayweather, 40, came out of retirement for the multi-million dollar fight and is one of the best boxers of his generation. A new report by the End Youth Homelessness Campaign suggests public opinion greatly underestimates the scale of youth homelessness in the UK. The findings show that most people believe there are less than 50,000 homeless young people in the UK whereas studies indicate more than 83,000. The study also revealed commonly held misconceptions, with nearly half of people citing drug or alcohol addiction as among the most common reasons for homelessness. The return of Special Olympics GB to Sheffield is a great opportunity to raise the profile of the games, according to president Lawrie McMenemy and chair Murton Mann. The Special Olympics 2017 torch has arrived in Sheffield to accompany thousands of athletes and their supporters. The GB National Games are for athletes with learning disabilities and cover a wide range of sports including tennis, swimming and bowling. Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane stadium will host 20,000 people for the opening ceremony, with ex-Spandau Ballet singer Tony Hadley headlining the event. Councillor Jack Scott, cabinet member for transport and sustainability, said the plan to ban diesel and petrol vehicles by 2040 is “woefully inadequate”. Sheffield’s centre was closed to cars and buses as the HSBC UK National Circuit Championships cycling event took place with Katie Archibald and Tom Pidock both first time winners. The cycling grand prix event, held in Sheffield for the sixth year, is one of the highlights of the elite road racing calendar with some of the country’s top professional riders going head-to-head for the prestigious red, white and blue national champions’ jerseys. Government has announced that Sheffield city centre train station has been approved for connection to the high-speed rail route HS2.
