Sheffield drivers to face 20mph city centre speed limit

A new 20mph per hour speed limit is to be introduced in Sheffield’s city centre following a Council-led public consultation. The aim is to cut speed and accidents as well as reducing pollution. Sheffield Council are planning for the new speed limit to come in to effect by the end of the year. Sheffield Live! reporter Azz Mohammed spoke to Councillors Jack Scott and Moya O Rourke.

Nine million drivers still use mobile phones at the wheel

A new report by the RAC suggests nine million drivers are using their mobile phones illegally whilst driving a vehicle. The report released reveals the number has fallen by a quarter compare to last year, but many are still texting or answering their phones despite tougher penalties being introduced during the year. Council condemns government plan on vehicle pollution

Councillor Jack Scott, cabinet member for transport and sustainability, said the plan to ban diesel and petrol vehicles by 2040 is “woefully inadequate”. Rural schools out of reach due to poor public transport

Three out of five young people in rural areas of England do not have adequate public transport to get to their secondary school, research from Rural England concludes. The State of Rural Services report says lack of public transport is harming opportunities in education. There are also concerns about gaps in access to broadband in rural areas.
