Surplus food project to open Upperthorpe cafe

Sheffield’s Real Junk Food Project is set to expand its network with a new pay-as-you-feel cafe opening in Upperthorpe. The pioneering food waste project sources food from supermarkets and other suppliers that remains unsold and makes it available for human consumption. Sheffield Live! reporter spoke to project director, Josephine Hercberg.

 

Kitchen Nightmares star in Ramsay reunion

Kitchen Nightmares star and restaurateur Justin Rowntree reunited with his former nemesis Gordon Ramsay this week on ITV’s The Nightly Show. Rowntree was the boss of Sheffield’s Runaway Girl restaurant and jazz club when Ramsay visited in 2011 to give it the full Kitchen Nightmares treatment. Whilst Rowntree clashed with the celebrity chef he ultimately took on board his advice, relaunched the restaurant as Silversmiths, won a host of awards and has never looked back. Food Cycle Hub launched in Sharrow to combat social isolation

The national charity, Food Cycle, have launched a new hub in Sharrow at the Cemetery Road Baptist Church with over 100 people attending the launch event. The Food Cycle Hubs, of which this will be the third in Sheffield, aim to reduce social isolation by providing a nutritious meal created from food surplus and prepared by volunteers. Every Wednesday volunteers serve a three course lunch and bring people together from the surrounding community around a freshly-cooked meal. Sheffield Live! reporter Baillor Jalloh spoke to Graham Duncan, organiser of the Food Cycle initiative in Sheffield.
