Spring clean campaign launched for Sheffield city centre

Sheffield Business and Improvement District has launched the BID Spring Clean, its annual campaign to tackle graffiti and litter in the city centre. Led by the Sheffield BID rangers, volunteers including members of the council met up in the rain to launch the six week campaign. Sheffield Live! reporter Azz Mohammed spoke to Diane Jarvis, Sheffield Bid manager.

Film makers invited to support Sheffield Channel 4 bid

Sheffield Council have commissioned a video showcase to highlight the talent and diversity of the city in a bid to attract the Channel 4 broadcaster and are asking local filmmakers to contribute material. The Department for Culture Media and Sport is reviewing the submissions to a recent consultation on the relocation out of London of part or all the public service channel and Sheffield is among the cities pitching to host it. Channel 4 relocation could deliver £1bn to the local economy

Sheffield Council have released details of their bid to bring Channel 4 to Sheffield including visualisations of a TV production headquarters next to Sheffield Station. Sheffield is one of several cities that have thrown their hat into the ring in respond to a government consultation on moving the public service channel out of London. It is estimated a Sheffield headquarters could bring over 4,000 highly skilled jobs to the city by 2027. Azz Mohammed reports for Sheffield Live!

City centre improvements

Businesses in Sheffield City centre who have a rateable value of over £30,000 could end up paying a levy that would go towards making improvements in the area.  The Sheffield Business Improvement District (BID) is a collaboration between the private and public sectors and could see up to four million pounds of investment going in to improving the City Centre over a five year period.
