Milk Teeth – The Plug [27/07/2017]

It’s rare that you can leave a gig feeling that you have, in a strange way,  made friends with the band after they’ve left the stage, despite not having a conversation with them.  The four piece is made up of (in alphabetical order!) Becky Blomfield, Billy Hutton, Chris Webb and Oli Holbrook and each soul on stage emanated this wonderful feeling of positivity, and through their themes of Being Nice and Owning Your Okayness, it’s almost as if you are getting a lyrically hug from the band and feel that you are in an environment where you can let your guard down and just be yourself. 

Despite some technical difficulties, Milk Teeth held the crowd by being completely endearing and radiating positive energy in the light of something that could have caused other bands to “get the face on”. A few jokes from the drummer Oli Holbrook sent ripples of chortles and I think perhaps some non-malicious eye rolling through the crowd.

The show was just brilliant and it left us at The Plug dying for more, I think it’s fair to say that we were surprised when the band left the stage and the lights came on! More Milk Teeth would have been the only thing that would have improved a practically perfect performance.

The group absolutely ooze the potential to be something massive and I have the utmost confidence that they will be.

Becky Blomfield is absolute power house, and a great role model for both men and women. Her incredibly interesting article Interesting article HERE from back in 2016 just shows that there is still a lot of work to do in the music industry.

Special Olympics 2017 – Day 4

The Special Olympics 2017 GB National Games have drawn to a close with a final day of competition, medals and closing celebrations for athletes and supporters. The country’s largest multi-sports event for athletes with intellectual disabilities, with 2600 participants, took place at thirteen venues across Sheffield. Special Olympics 2017 – Day 3

Emotions were flying high on the third day of Special Olympics Great Britain 2017 as the awards flowed at events across the city. Sheffield Live! caught up with more of the medal winners and competitors, with sports action including gymnastics at ICE Sheffield and badminton at English Institute of Sports, plus more highlights from track and field at the Sheffield Hallam University City Athletics Stadium on Woodbourn Road. Special Olympics 2017 – Day 2

On the morning after the opening ceremony for Special Olympics 2017 there were bronze, silver and gold medals glinting in the sun as serious competition got underway at venues across Sheffield. With 2600 athletes competing across twenty sports in thirteen Sheffield venues, the medals tally has begun to roll. Special Olympics 2017 – Day 1

Rain could do nothing to dampen the spirits for the opening ceremony at Bramall Lane of the Special Olympics 2017 GB National Games. Delegations from the nations and regions poured into the stadium for the lighting of the flame, accompanied by dancers, gymnasts, music and celebrity guests. “We’ll stop at nothing” the official song of the Games, sung by James Toseland, was a fitting statement of intent as the games got underway in venues across the city. With over 10,000 visitors to Sheffield, including 2,600 athletes plus their families, supporters, trainers and event volunteers, the Special Olympics 2017 GB National Games in Sheffield are off to a flying start. Special Olympics GB chiefs herald return to Sheffield

The return of Special Olympics GB to Sheffield is a great opportunity to raise the profile of the games, according to president Lawrie McMenemy and chair Murton Mann. McMenemy and Mann spoke to Sheffield Live! before the opening ceremony. The GB National Games are held once every four years and last took place in Sheffield in 1993. Torch arrives for Special Olympics 2017

The Special Olympics 2017 torch has arrived in Sheffield to accompany thousands of athletes and their supporters. The GB National Games are for athletes with learning disabilities and cover a wide range of sports including tennis, swimming and bowling. Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane stadium will host 20,000 people for the opening ceremony, with ex-Spandau Ballet singer Tony Hadley headlining the event.
