Barry Chuckle funeral held at Rotherham United

The funeral of Barry Chuckle has been held at Rotherham United Football Club. While family members were at the ceremony, fans gathered outside the stadium to show support for the comedy legend. Paul Chuckle described his brother as his best friend and cried as fans shouted the famous catchphrase ‘to me to you’. Barry Chuckle died on 5th August aged 73 after a short illness. Sharrow Festival celebrates 21 years

City strip club gains licence renewal despite objections

Spearmint Rhino on Brown Street has had its licence renewed by Sheffield Council despite over 150 objections. The lap dancing club has been in operation for over fifteen years despite complaints about the suitability of its location. David Barker, chair of Sheffield Council’s licensing committee said there was no evidence of poor practices at the club. Sheffield Live! reporter Azz Mohammed spoke to City Ward Councillor Douglas Johnson who has been campaigning for the club to be closed.

Boys Who Like Girls premiere launched at Sheffield Doc/Fest

Sheffield Doc/Fest hosted another world premiere with the launch of Boys Who Like Girls, a film set in Mumbai that explores male violence and masculinity. The film describes a young teenager called Ved who comes from a violent home in the Mumbai slums. After joining a project aiming to foster healthy masculinity he realises there may be a brighter path than the one paved by his abusive and controlling father. Opposition grows to lap dancing club licence renewal

Calls are growing for the Spearmint Rhino lap dancing club licence renewal to be rejected due to its location close to educational facilities, residential properties and businesses. Renewal of the venue licence is due to be considered at a 19 June meeting of Sheffield Council after being previously extended for a 12 month period. Campaigners have already secured a judicial review of the Council’s previous decision and a hearing is set to take place a week after the licence renewal meeting. Sheffield submits bid to host Channel 4 HQ

Sheffield’s pitch to host a new national headquarters for Channel 4 has been submitted with the support of Sheffield Council, South Yorkshire regional mayor, Dan Jarvis, and local filmakers and educational institutions. With the message “If Channel 4 was a city it would be Sheffield” the bid document sets out the city’s offer including potential city centre locations and opportunities to engage with and develop the region’s filmmaking talent. Cities across the UK are competing to host the new national headquarters or one of two new Creative Hubs as part of Channel 4 plans to increase its profile and expenditure outside of London.
