Sheffield fans disappointment after Croatia defeat

Thousands of football fans gathered at Devonshire Green on Wednesday night to watch England go down 2-1 to Croatia in the World Cup semi-final. The match was shown on a giant screen open to the public. Sheffield Live! reporter Baillor Jalloh asked fans for their reaction after the final whistle.

Owls charity football match raises 12k

The Charity Cup, held at Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough stadium has raised £12,000 for St Luke’s Hospice and the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme. Two teams, kitted out in Wednesday’s home and away strips, were drawn from Owls supporters who pledged to each raise at least £500 for charity as well sports and other guest stars including musicians Jon McClure of Reverend and the Makers and Jon Windle of Little Man Tate. Free health checks offered at football clubs

Free health checks are to be offered to fans at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane stadium in an initiative in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University & Weston Park Hospital. The third session took place prior to the Blades home game against Middlesborough with the club hoping it can encourage fans to adopt a healthier life. Sheffield Live! reporter Azz Mohammed spoke to Rachel Cholerton, from Sheffield Hallam University and Dave McCarthy, operations manager at Sheffield United.

Funding boost for Aden Steelers

A youth football club in Burngreave has been granted funding to help tackle extremism and keep young people away from crime and anti-social behaviour. The Police and Crime Commissioner for South Yorkshire has awarded £4,500 to Aden Steelers Football Club from his Community Grants Scheme. The club encourages young people in north east Sheffield to take part in sports activities. Baillor Jalloh reports for Sheffield Live!

Luhukay asked to take Owls to premiership

Jos Luhukay has been officially unveiled as the new manager of Sheffield Wednesday with the challenge of returning the team to top flight football. The Dutchman, who has spent most of his managing career in the lower leagues in Germany, arrived at Hillsborough after Carlos Carvalhal left the club by mutual agreement on Christmas Eve. Owls chairman, Dejphon Chansiri, has asked the new manager to “finish the job” by getting the club back into the Premier league. Former Owls star and England international in charity book signing

Former Sheffield Wednesday and England international footballer, Carlton Palmer, has launched his autobiography with a book signing in aid of the Cavendish Cancer Care charity. Palmer has committed 20 per cent of the cover price of signed copies to be donated to the charity. The retired midfielder said he has lost many friends to cancer and called it “the devils disease”.  Sheffield Live! reporter Azz Mohammed spoke to Carlton Palmer at Owlerton Stadium.

Sheffield United: Brook selected for Wales squad

Sheffield United youngster, David Brook has been selected to join the Wales national team for the forthcoming World Cup qualifying matches in October against Georgia and the Republic of Ireland. It’s the twenty year old’s first international call up. Blades manager Chris Wilder has been full of praise for Brook and said the youngster is very much his plan for the future.
