Diabetes report highlights foot ulcer risk

More than a third of people are unaware of the dangers of diabetes related foot ulcers which untreated can lead to foot amputations, a new survey from Diabetes UK has revealed. Diabetic foot ulcer is a major complication of diabetes with 80 per cent of diabetes related amputations arising from unhealed ulcers. Sheffield Live! reporter Azz Mohammed spoke to Stephen Ryan, head of the North of England region for Diabetes UK.

Masquerade ball raises £5,000 for diabetes charity

A Sheffield sixth former has raised over £5,000 for the charity Diabetes UK by hosting a fundraising masquerade ball. Sixteen year-old Ellie Channer sought to raise awareness and to help others with the condition after being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes herself. Azz Mohammed reports for Sheffield Live!

Sheffield Diabetes UK volunteers win national award

A group of volunteers who support people with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes have been honoured with a ‘Local Group and Community Award’ at Diabetes UK’s National Inspire Awards. The Sheffield Diabetes UK group is chaired by Andy Broomhead who campaigns for better diabetes services, offers emotional and practical support to others with the condition, and raises awareness. Andy, who has Type 1 diabetes himself, told Sheffield Live how he felt to win the award.
